“Ridiculous and Sublime” sounds okay to me!

Sequart Research and Literacy Organization ran a lovely review of Lust in Rob Clough’s “High-Low” column. (”High-Low”?) I love that Rob took note of this detail, which nobody else has commented on:

“The cover image itself is a hilarious triumph of design — we see a star covering up the woman’s breast, which is understandable, but it takes a second to figure out why the second star is so big until the reader notices the strap on the woman’s thigh.”

(Now if only someone would take note of the endpapers! Those were a lot of work, those endpapers.)

Thanks, Rob!

Hi Ellen,

Just saw this comment–thanks for the link. “High-Low” is a sort of inside joke I have with myself about comics and the tension felt as the medium as potentially either high art or low art. It’s also a reference to my other career as a basketball writer.

LUST really was a lot of fun. My wife in particular really enjoyed reading it as well. She’s a big fan of Sherman Alexie, so we were both happy to see you illustrating his latest (and congrats on the sequel!). I saw him speak here at Duke University a couple of years ago and he’s an amazing storyteller.

take care,

–Rob
