I really wanted use some of that ubiquitous, awful, drop-shadowed lettering, but I settled for a silly “I’m self-publishing!!” font. It was fun to typeset something - I always brush my own lettering.

The Stranger’s arts editor, Jen Graves, not only wrote a nice little review of “Big Fuckin’ Hands,” but did it as a Stranger Suggests listing for this past Saturday night. Awesome!
‘Big Fuckin’ Hands’
(Art) Ellen Forney’s black-and-white hands on red backgrounds are big and fucking. The largest paintings are shorthand for sex acts (a fist gripping an index finger); the smaller ones are individual portraits of friends’ hands miming actual sexual acts. What a difference there is between the broad comedic shorthand and the surprisingly quiet, intimate gestures. We stand in the gap, a little embarrassed, a little turned on. Yes, the ads are real, and yes, I edit them heavily. I often add my own titles, like for this one. How can she not have called her ad “All You Can Eat”?? It’s almost too obvious.
